Resumes

I have been working on my resume lately and there are seriously so many different resume templates that you can find online. How do you know which one to use? I feel like employers should rely on what your resume says, but do they really care about the lay out of it? It's all the same information. Also, each person looking at it has different views on what is attractive to their eye concerning size, fonts, bullets, white space, etc. I had someone tell me once to make my resume more unique to me. They suggested adding different fonts, sizes, and bullets into the paper so it didn't look so structured? I thought it was supposed to look professional. Well, it's been working so far so I must have done something right.

Hate Speech vs Free Speech

Hate speech policies have become a popular topic concerning Universities and business companies. I believe that everyone has the right to free speech, but what is the point of saying something outloud that will offend someone. If you feel strongly about something, you have everyright to feel it and think it, but sometimes you just need to keep things to yourself.

Entry 1: 2/24/08

Jobs, jobs, jobs! That's the only thing that seems to be on my mind lately. With my senior year of college coming to an end, I have been worried about getting an internship, and after that finding a job particularly with my projected career choice. The process of interviewing is another topic that I have been worrying about lately. I will be interviewing for internship positions in May and I don't really know how to prepare. I have had interviews before, but they haven't been anything too difficult. Tell me about yourself, tell me about a time when you experienced a challenging situation and how you handled it, and some other situational questions are mainly what I have experienced so far. I recently interviewed for the Child Life practicum position at the Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines. There were several questions and one of them was "what is your communication style?" I tried not to let it show on my face, but inside I was like..uh what does that mean? I answered the question, but I don't really remember what I said! It must have went okay, because I got a call the next week and was offered the position:) From my experiences so far, I feel that I am a good interviewer. However, I am nervous about interviewing for more highly skilled jobs and positions. I'm guessing the questions are more difficult!?!
